Authorities in Warrap State announced on Friday that a woman had been apprehended in Tonj South County for attempting to smuggle ammunition to the troubled Tonj East County.

Last week, armed youth from the Luachjang Section attacked the Jalwau Community, resulting in casualties on both sides. Reports indicate that peace has prevailed in Tonj South County since Governor Amb. Bol Wek Agoth temporarily relocated there.

Commissioner John Autiak of Tonj South informed Radio Tamazuj that the woman, identified as Aguek, is under investigation for transporting ammunition from Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to Warrap’s Tonj East County. Autiak explained that Aguek admitted to picking up the bullets in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, after they were received at the border in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

“She was intercepted at a checkpoint where security forces found 1,121 bullets hidden in a sack with sorghum. We are looking into whether this was an isolated incident or if she has been engaging in this activity for a while,” Commissioner Autiak stated.

He praised the efforts of Governor Amb. Bol Wek Agoth and the residents of Tonj South County for contributing to the security and stability of the area. Autiak also noted that the disarmament exercise is progressing with the cooperation of the youth.

Warrap State Information Minister Mamer Bath confirmed the woman’s arrest and commended the security forces on their successful operation. He assured that the disarmament process is ongoing, with local chiefs and authorities working to collect illegal weapons.

“If necessary, we will use force to disarm those who resist,” Minister Bath stated.
