(YAMBIO) – Authorities in Yambio, the capital of Western Equatoria State, have confirmed the killing of a 22 year old man by his wife during a domestic altercation on Friday evening.
According to local chief John Simon of Rii Bodo in Bazungua Payam, the fatal incident took place around 8:00 p.m. The victim, identified only as Anibiko, was reportedly stabbed to death by his wife following an argument related to suspected infidelity. After the incident, the woman fled the scene and remains at large.
Chief Simon condemned the act and urged couples experiencing disputes to seek help from community leaders instead of resorting to violence.
“If there is any issue between couples, it should be brought to the chief’s house where it can be resolved peacefully, not through violence that leads to death,” he said.
Edward Alimino Mombasa, Deputy Chief of Yambio Town Municipality, said the woman allegedly attacked her husband after discovering he was romantically involved with another woman. He emphasised the importance of mutual respect and open dialogue in relationships.
“If a man wants to marry another woman, there should be mutual agreement. Such matters should be handled through dialogue, not bloodshed,” Mombasa said.
Francis Francisco Akim, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) coordinator in Yambio County, described the killing as deeply regrettable and called on young people to manage emotions and settle disagreements calmly.
“It is unacceptable to take someone’s life over such matters,” Akim said. “This is now a criminal case, and the law will take its course. Violence is never the answer. Let us learn to solve issues calmly and respectfully.”
The deceased is expected to be buried on Saturday evening. Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue searching for the suspect. Efforts to contact the state police commissioner for comment were unsuccessful by press time.
