(JUBA) – The race for the presidency of the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) has officially begun, with four individuals formally submitting their candidacy files ahead of the scheduled elections on 15 August 2025.
Among those vying for the top position is Molana Kamal John, currently serving as the president of Monuki Football Club. He is joined by Mr Teng Deng, another figure with experience in both football and administration.
The former SSFF President, Francis Amin Michael, is also seeking to return to the position he previously held. Meanwhile, the current president, Lt-Gen. Augustino Madout Parek, has declared his intention to seek a second term in office.
The SSFF Electoral Committee has confirmed receipt of all four applications. These candidacy files are now under review to verify whether each applicant meets the eligibility requirements outlined by the federation.
According to the SSFF Electoral Committee, candidates for both the President and Vice President positions must meet a strict set of criteria. Applicants must be South Sudanese nationals and permanent residents of the Republic of South Sudan. They must also hold a bachelor’s degree in any academic field and have at least four years of experience in football administration or management in South Sudan within the last eight years.
Furthermore, prospective candidates must not have been convicted or sentenced by the FIFA Ethics Committee or any other internationally recognised sports adjudicatory body. The full list of requirements was shared earlier this year during the election guidelines briefing.
The SSFF, formerly known as the South Sudan Football Association, has recently undergone rebranding, with its renewed emphasis on structural reform, governance and youth football development in the country.
Once the review process is complete, the final list of eligible candidates will be made public by the Electoral Committee. The committee has not indicated any delays, and preparations for the August 15 vote are reportedly proceeding on schedule.
