(JUBA) – The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) has launched a major capacity-building initiative by sending a team of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) engineers to France for specialized Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) training. The programme began on 1 November 2025 and will conclude on 28 November.
This training is part of SSCAA’s efforts, led by Director General John Woja Elinana, to strengthen aviation safety and operational reliability across South Sudan. The course equips engineers with practical knowledge and technical skills to maintain critical CNS and Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems. Participants learn to install, configure, operate, monitor, and maintain safety-critical systems, while developing a safety mindset for operational environments.
The programme also reinforces compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards, including competence requirements in ICAO Doc 10057. Engineers gain awareness in human factors, cybersecurity, and quality management, strengthening the safety culture across the authority.
According to a statement from SSCA, by preparing personnel for future operational authorizations and independent system oversight, the initiative enhances South Sudan’s air navigation infrastructure and ensures global compliance with aviation safety standards.
The training is expected to improve the reliability and integrity of CNS/ATM systems while contributing to safe, efficient air traffic management.
