(JUBA) – Central Equatoria Governor Urges Dialogue to Resolve Church Dispute

Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony of Central Equatoria State has called on the Juba Diocese and the Moru congregation to engage in dialogue to resolve their ongoing dispute. The appeal came during a meeting with Moru Congregation leaders at the State Government Secretariat in Juba on 8 December 2025.

Governor Adil directed the reopening of churches that had been closed during the conflict, highlighting the importance of allowing communities to continue their religious activities, particularly during the festive season. He emphasised that both parties must respect the law while seeking a neutral and fair resolution.

Acknowledging the tension between the two religious groups, the Governor underlined that dialogue and mutual respect are essential to maintain peace and social harmony in the state. He encouraged church leaders to prioritise community welfare and cooperation over prolonged disagreement.

The leaders of the Juba Diocese and the Moru congregation responded positively to the Governor’s call. They confirmed their willingness to meet for discussions and expressed commitment to resolving the matter in a neutral and constructive manner. Both sides pledged to continue preaching and serving their communities during the Christmas period.

Party Role in Dialogue Key Commitment
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony Mediator Urge dialogue, law compliance, reopening of churches
Juba Diocese Stakeholder Participate in talks, respect laws, continue preaching
Moru Congregation Stakeholder Engage in dialogue, promote harmony, maintain religious services

According to the State Press Unit CESGPU, the Governor’s intervention represents a proactive step by Central Equatoria State leadership to prevent escalation of local disputes, ensure freedom of worship, and maintain community stability ahead of the holiday season.
