(JUBA) – Following a peaceful and competitive vote on 16 August 2025, the Kakwa community in South Sudan has elected Isaac Dada Lemi as its new leader.
Lemi emerged victorious with 191 votes, surpassing his opponent, Hon Jacob Aligo, a current Member of Parliament and Minister of Peace Building, who received 102 votes. The newly appointed leader will hold office for a five-year term until 2029.
With a diverse professional background, Lemi currently holds the position of Director of Administration and Logistics at the National Communication Authority. He has previously worked as a teacher, entrepreneur, and youth leader, holding academic qualifications in Economic Development, Business Administration, and Development Studies.
Situated at the tri-border area of Uganda, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Kakwa community’s cultural heritage has historically played a key role in fostering unity and upholding social cohesion among its members.
