The Minister of Information and Communication, Michael Makuei Lueth, has urged the newly elected leadership of the South Sudan Scout Association to reject tribalism and work towards fostering national unity.
Makuei’s comments come following the election of new leaders, which saw him retain his position as Chairman of the Board. Ladu Saeed was elected as Commissioner General, with Jackilne Ago becoming the first and youngest female Deputy Commissioner General.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Information, Communication, Telecommunication, and Postal Services on Saturday, the Minister emphasised the importance of eradicating political tribalism and building a sense of nationalism. He assured the new executive team of support from both the state and national governments.
Commissioner General Ladu Saeed expressed his commitment to initiating activities in Yei River County, the birthplace of the Scout Association. He also intends to expand the association’s reach to Lafon County in Eastern Equatoria, where youth are manipulated to fuel conflicts.
Established in 2011 after South Sudan gained independence from Sudan, the South Sudan Scout Association became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 2012. The association oversees the Rejaf Scouts Farm in Juba.
