(JUBA) – The Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services (MoICTPS) has requested MTN South Sudan to provide a detailed technical explanation for the high cost of its mobile and internet services.
The request followed a meeting between Minister Ateny Wek Ateny, MTN CEO, and Huawei Country Representative. The discussion took place during a series of congratulatory visits from relatives, friends, and telecommunications stakeholders following the Minister’s recent appointment.
Minister Ateny highlighted that internet and mobile data in South Sudan remain expensive, placing a financial burden on citizens and limiting access to communication and digital services. He stated that the Ministry will engage MTN in further technical discussions to identify ways to reduce tariffs while ensuring service sustainability.
The Minister emphasised that affordable internet is critical for education, business, and social connectivity, and the government is committed to supporting initiatives that improve access for all users.
The Ministry indicated that it will continue discussions with MTN and other telecom providers to develop practical solutions that make internet and mobile services more affordable for the public, while supporting the growth and sustainability of the telecom sector in South Sudan.
