(YAMBIO COUNTY) – MTN South Sudan has announced the start of a network upgrade in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, as part of efforts to improve service quality and address recent disruptions experienced by customers in the area.
In an official communication issued to the public, the telecommunications company apologised for the ongoing service interruptions and acknowledged the inconvenience caused to subscribers. The company said the disruptions are linked to technical work currently being carried out to modernise its network infrastructure.
According to MTN South Sudan, the upgrade focuses on the expansion and improvement of its fourth generation mobile network in Yambio. The company said the work is expected to be completed within two weeks and will result in stronger network coverage, clearer voice calls and faster mobile data speeds for users.
MTN said the investment forms part of its wider strategy to maintain service standards across South Sudan, where demand for reliable mobile and internet connectivity continues to grow among households, businesses and public institutions. The company described the upgrade as essential to improving overall network performance and long term service reliability.
During the upgrade period, MTN warned that customers may continue to experience temporary service interruptions as engineers carry out technical improvements. The company said such disruptions are unavoidable during major network enhancements but are necessary to deliver lasting improvements once the work is completed.
MTN South Sudan positioned the Yambio project within its broader commitment to infrastructure investment across the country, as competition in the telecoms sector increases and customers demand better quality services. Telecommunications remains one of the most active private sectors in South Sudan, contributing to employment, digital inclusion and business activity.
The company thanked its customers in Yambio and Western Equatoria State for their patience and continued trust, noting that improved connectivity is expected to support communication, trade and access to digital services once the upgrade is finalised.
