(JUBA COUNTY) – Prestige Millers Limited (PML), a South Sudanese owned food processing company, has expanded its production line with the launch of a new flour brand, Hayba Flour, at its facility in Luri, Juba County. The development marks a step forward in strengthening local manufacturing capacity and reducing the country’s dependence on imported flour.

The company, which specialises in milling wheat, maize and sorghum, has invested in modern equipment that allows it to process, package, and store flour in large volumes. Its flagship brand, Hayba, is now being expanded to include the newly launched Hayba Flour product, aimed at supplying households and local markets with affordable and reliable options.

Prestige Millers’ factory in Luri is equipped with storage facilities designed to maintain consistent supply and preserve product quality. Company managers say their production capacity enables them to meet the needs of both retail and wholesale markets across Juba and beyond.

PML seeks to keep more value within South Sudan’s economy while also providing jobs for local workers by sourcing raw materials and processing them locally.

South Sudan’s flour market is heavily import driven, with much of the supply coming from neighbouring countries. This reliance has contributed to high prices and vulnerability to external market shocks. Prestige Millers hopes to play a role in stabilising food supply and supporting food security by scaling up domestic production.

The company says that the new Hayba Flour line will target both urban and rural households, with a focus on affordability.

“We want to ensure South Sudanese families have access to quality, locally produced flour that competes with imports,” a Prestige Millers representative explained during the launch.

While the company operates as a private-sector enterprise, its growth has attracted the attention of government officials. Central Equatoria State Governor, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, toured the facility on Saturday alongside senior state officials. They were shown the milling, packaging and storage systems.

The governor said the launch of Hayba Flour represents not only a business expansion but also a contribution to broader efforts to enhance national food security and economic self reliance.
