(Juba) – South Sudanese rapper Young Boy has firmly responded to those who label him as a “local artist,” stating that his music speaks for the nation far beyond its borders.
The rising rapper took to social media this week to push back against criticism and to promote his upcoming international performance.
In his post, Young Boy wrote: “Dem calling me local artist while my music is fully representing South Sudan to the fullest with Arabi Jubee. India get ready, it’s just 4 days to be on your stage.”
Young Boy is known for performing in Arabi Juba, a dialect widely spoken in the capital and other parts of the country. His use of the language in music has gained him a dedicated fan base at home and recognition abroad.
He has not disclosed how much he will earn from the Indian show, but artists performing abroad typically receive fees ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 per appearance. At current rates in South Sudan’s parallel market, this equals approximately 7 million to 70 million South Sudanese Pounds.
