(Nairobi) – South Sudan’s U20 national football team captain, Bichiok Dang, made headlines on Sunday after leading Nairobi United to their first ever Football Kenya Federation Cup title.

The team recently promoted to Kenya’s top flight league achieved a major upset by defeating record champions Gor Mahia 2–1 in the final.

Dang, who wore the captain’s armband for Nairobi United, played a large role in the club’s impressive performance throughout the tournament.

The victory marks a historic milestone for the Kenyan side and also secures their qualification to represent Kenya in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.

The final, held in Nairobi, drew wide attention across East Africa, particularly in South Sudan where football fans closely followed the achievements of their national youth team captain abroad.

Many celebrated Dang’s leadership and performance, viewing his success as a source of pride and inspiration for young athletes back home.

The win was especially notable given the stature of the opposition. Gor Mahia, Kenya’s most decorated football club, has a long history of domestic dominance.

However, it was the underdogs from Nairobi United who outplayed them in the final, with Dang’s influence helping to steady the team and drive the comeback.

With the victory, Nairobi United not only lifted the Mozzart Bet Cup for the first time but also booked their place in continental football. The CAF Confederation Cup will give the team a chance to compete at a higher level and gain experience against top clubs from across Africa.

Bichiok Dang’s achievement adds to a growing list of young South Sudanese footballers making an impact in regional leagues.

His leadership and composure under pressure are seen as strong indicators of his potential future with South Sudan’s senior national team.
