(JUBA) – Governor of Central Equatoria State, H.E. Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, met with Chief Justice Dr. Benjamin Baak Deng on Tuesday to tackle land disputes, rising social crimes and measures to secure property rights across the state. The meeting in Juba focused on strengthening cooperation between the State Government and Judiciary to protect citizens’ land and encourage confidence in South Sudan’s real estate market.
Governor Mujung said the meeting aligned with President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s directive for closer collaboration on land issues. He highlighted the need for strong enforcement to prevent land grabbing and ensure peaceful resolution of disputes, a step considered essential to safeguard real estate investments.
“We deliberated and agreed to engage the Judiciary to establish a special court to handle land grabbing cases,” he said.
The discussion also covered rising criminal activities, including gang offences locally called “niggas” or “torontos,” robberies, and suicides in Juba and other parts of Central Equatoria.
Mujung requested a dedicated court for public order cases, emphasising the need to protect homes and commercial properties. He also supported a request from the Kajo-Keji County Commissioner to deploy 2nd and 3rd grade judges to clear pending cases, including unresolved land and property disputes.
Both leaders stressed the importance of collaboration between the Executive and Judiciary to strengthen governance, ensure justice, and maintain investor confidence in the property sector.
Governor Mujung described the meeting as productive and a vital step towards protecting citizens’ property rights, resolving disputes efficiently, and fostering a safer environment for real estate development.
The Governor was joined by Hon. Leon Abe Brown, State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency, and H.W. Johnson Swaka Nishak, Mayor of Juba City Council.
