(ZAPORIZHZHIA OBLAST, UKRAINE) – Soldiers from the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have engaged Russian forces in close range combat on the Zaporizhzhia front, according to information released by the agency.
Troops from the Department of Active Operations of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence took part in the fighting, which took place on the outskirts of the settlement of Stepnohirsk.
Ukrainian intelligence soldiers exchanged fire with Russian troops during a close quarters firefight in the area. Video released by Ukrainian authorities shows the engagement and the destruction of Russian positions at short distance.
According to the statement, Ukrainian reconnaissance units carried out a systematic clearing of Russian positions in the area. The operation involved advancing through enemy positions step by step and securing ground metre by metre.
Ukrainian officials said the fighting forms part of ongoing combat operations along the Zaporizhzhia direction as Ukrainian forces continue efforts to regain occupied territory.
