(JUBA CITY) – Juba Electricity Distribution Company has extended its emergency maintenance work on the city’s power system to 23 December 2025. The work was earlier planned to end on 08 December 2025, but the company said more time is needed to stabilise supply and improve safety at the power plant.
JEDCO said the extended work will affect different parts of Juba every day with scheduled evening outages. Power will go off from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM from 11 December to 23 December 2025. The company said it will share daily schedules to help homes and businesses plan.
The firm noted that the work is important for long term improvement of power stability in the capital. Residents in areas such as Hai Cinema, Hai Malaka, Konyokonyo, Juba Town, Munuki, Gudele, Kololo, Custom, Gumbo and others will face temporary interruptions depending on the feeder line under repair that day.
JEDCO apologised for the interruption and said the work is needed due to the technical nature of the repairs. The company added that the goal is to improve service quality at a time when demand for power in the capital continues to rise due to expanding business activities.
Local businesses said the schedule will help them prepare, although some expressed concern about losses linked to evening outage periods. Several traders said they will rely on generators but noted that fuel prices remain high.
Despite the challenges, some business owners said the maintenance work could reduce unplanned outages that have affected operations in recent months.
