(MOSCOW) – Sergey Karnaukhov, a prominent host on the Solovyov Live channel, has expressed significant frustration regarding the perceived geopolitical fragility of the Russian state.
During a recent broadcast of his radio show, Karnaukhov’s Labyrinth, the host addressed the viral reaction to his previous assertions concerning the relationship between Moscow and Venezuela. Karnaukhov admitted that the Western world has identified and exploited a specific vulnerability within the Russian administration, leading to a public discourse that highlights the lack of decisiveness from the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The host noted that state officials must recognize that the country is engaged in a literal war, yet he questioned their passive response to escalating international pressure.
The catalyst for this public admission of weakness appears to be the recent and dramatic capture of Nicolas Maduro by United States forces. Karnaukhov had previously stated in December that Maduro was correct to rely on Moscow for security and that the Kremlin had provided the necessary volume of assistance to the Venezuelan leader.
However, on 3 January 2026, American special forces successfully apprehended Maduro and his wife in Caracas, transporting them to New York to face charges related to narco terrorism. Karnaukhov remarked on the uncertainty of Maduro’s future, speculating whether the deposed leader would end up in a settlement near Syrian figures or in an American prison cell. This failure to protect a key ally has triggered a wave of internal criticism, with many Russian citizens questioning the effectiveness and resolve of the Kremlin.
Karnaukhov also highlighted a recent maritime incident involving the Marinera, a vessel sailing under the Russian flag that was seized by the United States. He described the seizure as a pirate attack and a direct violation of international law, asserting that the ship represents Russian territory.
The host called for a more aggressive rhetorical and physical response, suggesting that Russian forces should have boarded the vessel to expel the Americans. He warned that if the Kremlin continues to tolerate such actions, the situation will deteriorate into a form of modern medievalism where international actors constantly probe the scale of Russian weakness.
The broadcast concluded with Karnaukhov urging state officials and the public to stop waiting for instructions from above and to find the courage to speak and act with greater severity. He lamented the presence of an internal “fifth column” that he claims benefits from the country’s failures and mocks the lack of a powerful and tangible response to Western provocations.
While the host attempted to frame the struggle as a long term conflict for the survival of the state, his comments reflect a growing realization within the propaganda machine that the prestige of the Russian dictator is rapidly diminishing on the global stage.
